On April 9th, our Chai suffered a serious injury. She vomited several times, including blood, and was rushed to the emergency veterinarians. After taking x-rays, they diagnosed her with pneumomediastinum and pneumothorax, which means air is escaping her lungs and filling other cavities. The veterinarians believe there could be a tear in her esophagus or trachea, but the exact severity and state of her lungs and chest can only be determined with an urgent CT scan.

For the past 24 hours, Chai has been struggling to breathe, in extreme pain, barely able to walk, lethargic and not our usual happy dog. This injury is life threatening, and worst case scenario she has a severe tear in her esophagus as well as air in her chest which could lead to food/water escaping into her body, infection such as septic shock, internal bleeding, cardiac arrest, and/or collapsed lungs.

Veterinary medicine/Hospitals are pay up front which means they won’t provide care unless you have the money available in the moment. It is all extremely expensive, and we have exhausted every other option to cover these costs. We have already spent all we had in bringing her to the pet hospital so she could be seen, get x-rays and medications to try to help/keep her comfortable.

My family has suffered traumatic losses one after the other these past 2 years, and we will never be the same if Chai doesn’t make it. She has been there for us through the hardest moments and serves as an emotional support dog for my special need sister. Losing Chai would also impact my sister’s health immensely. This fundraiser is the very least I can do for her, I will never be myself again if she doesn’t make it. She doesn’t deserve this suffering at only 3 years old, especially with her birthday coming up on May 1st.
