Help Anna's Movement Arts survive Covid-19 crisis
Donation protected
These are difficult times for all of us. Many of us see our livelihoods threatened or gone and struggle to make ends meet. My heart goes out to all who suffer such unnerving insecurity. I am one of them and out of necessity am asking you for donations to hold on to my small business while I am weathering this crisis. Whatever you can give will be greatly appreciated. I am also applying for a $ 500 matching grant for small businesses created by Go Fund Me, Yelp and Intuit in response to the Covid-19. All donations will help me keep paying rent and utilities, scheduling software fees, QuickBook fees, Constant Contact fees, internet fees, teaching and coaching insurance fees, membership dues, annual continuing education requirement fees.
Let me tell you a little bit about my business and work.
I started Anna’s Movement Arts or A.M.A. after graduating from Cornell with a BA in Fine Arts, here in Ithaca in 2001 with just a handful of very young students and some adults. My first focus was on teaching Figure Skating and Ice Dance (I am a PSA certified coach). Later I added off ice training with an emphasis on artistic expression, ballet and dance techniques for skaters, later still I added art and yoga classes (I am a certified Yoga Ed, Y.O.G.A. for Youth and Radiant Child Special Needs instructor) and dance classes in hip hop and Latin.
In the course of my 19 years of teaching I have worked with hundreds of kids and teens in after school enrichment programs offered during the school year; with The Rink in learn-to-skate programs or teaching private one-on-one or pairs skating sessions; with Cass Park during ice skating season and with Cass Park Summer Camps; with T.S.T. Boces and South Side Community Center; with the Hangar Theatre, CSMA, EAC Montessori School and with IC and Cornell.
In the summer I regularly offer figure skating lessons at the Rink and yoga & creative arts camps, renting space at Just Because for the latter. I very much hope that I can hold this year’s scheduled camps as planned.
I feel passionate about my work and love my students, young and adult. I am convinced that what they are working on in their lessons with me centers them more and gives them much joy. I am grateful that some of my students are able to take Zoom classes with me in yoga and off ice training during this difficult time. This helps me and I hope it helps them. I feel fortunate that I am able to stay in touch with them in this way.
I would also like to pay forward the help I hope to receive and give 10% of what Go Fund Me donates to my business to the Healthy Food For All program. HFFA provides quality local produce to over 200 low income families in this region. (http://www.healthyfoodforall.org/).
Thank you for considering my request.
May you all stay healthy and hopeful.
Sincerely,
Anna Goehner
