Let's Bring Our Angel Home

Donation protected

Welcome to our GoFundMe page to raise money for the death of Josephine Abiola Sawyerr.

As we all know, death is always the hardest on the family left behind. However, in this case, the passing of Josephine leaves her only living Offspring, Sean, whom she was very close with.

He is left to not only pay for all the expenses death brings, but also the huge added expense of getting Josephine transported to the United States from Canada to be buried close to him. With borders closing, the covid19 virus, and shutdowns making everything so difficult, Sean could use all our help right now in the form of monetary donations so that his mother can be put to rest respectfully.

Whether you had the pleasure of knowing Josephine or not, she was by far one of the most friendly, out-going persons around. She has never met a stranger. Despite her very positive and warm personality, Josephine had a lot of hurdles throughout her life, including being diagnosed with cancer in 2012.

Josephine was born and raised in Ghana, then moved to Nigeria, where she owned a small saloon and worked in the Airline industry. She then moved to the United States for the American Dream, where she worked as a nurse.

An adventurous, intelligent, and proud woman, Josephine spoke five languages and believed one should always be learning. In fact, after remission and at the age of 60 she graduated with her Bachelor's degree with a double major and honors from the University Of Windsor. She loved helping others and won the volunteer of the year award in 2018 from the same university. All this was done while experiencing extreme pain from the devastating effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Her determination and courageous spirit has set the bar high for the next generation, especially her two current grandchildren, Abiola and Ayoni.

Unfortunately, Josephine’s cancer came back in 2020 causing her to be unable to work. With the lockdown and various restrictions in place, combined with the ensuing labor shortage, josephine suffered and was left to battle this disease mostly alone, leaving her in a very stressful health and financial situation. That financial stress has now passed on to her only child.

We will all keep the spirit of Josephine alive by remembering her unforgettable smile, a smile that was so infectious that colleges in two different countries used her smiling face for their marketing campaign, including billboards and etc..

Whether you can donate $5 or $5,000, we welcome any donation size to bring Josephine home, where she has touched so many.

Our angel should be laid to rest by May 31st
5% of  the target will be donated to cancer charities in Canada and the United States
