HuniKuin - "The Real People" and my Kilimanjaro Challenge.

HuniKuin and their struggle for life

In the Brasilian-Peruvian part of the Amazonian Rainforest are still some 10.000 HuniKuin Indigenous people living, scattered over several villages.

In the state of Acre, alongside the Brasilian Envira River, downstream of the growing city of Feijo, a small HuniKuin community lives in their village Aldeia São Francisco(Me Nia Ibu Isaka in Hãtxa Kuī- the HuniKuin language). They are struggling to keep their community and culture alive, as do so many Indigenous tribes in the Amazon. The Såo Fransisco tribe is blessed with some young leaders who are dedicated to maintain their cultural heritage and their traditional way of living in the rainforest. And most of all, transmit the ancient knowledge of their cohabitation with the natural environment they live in, to future generations. In their traditional foodsystem fish from the river plays an important role and was always abundant. But not anymore. Unfortunately pollution from the city of Feijo in the Envira river threatens the food supply for the downstream living HuniKuin.

Therefore the village is planning to create their own fish breeding ponds. To develop this project they lack financial resources and funding is needed.

Kilimanjaro Challenge.

In januari I will try to climb the Kilimanjaro twice in one week. At januari 6 for a three day climb and at januari 11 for a one day climb. Although I've accomplished some challenges past decades this one won't be easy. I will dedicate "my Kilimanjaro Suffering" to this HuniKuin Project and try to raise some funding to help rescue their food system.
