Last Friday at 3am, my husband was coming home from work when he found a dog standing alone in the middle of the road. She was severely matted, underweight, dehydrated, and dirty. Despite her condition, she allowed him to pick her up and bring her home. We cleaned her up, cut out the mats, bathed her, and made sure she had food and water. After a long rest, we took her to the urgent vet, where we learned her ears were filled with ticks, she had a grade IV heart murmur, tested positive for Lyme disease, and was not spayed or microchipped. We did everything we could to help her recover from her initial visit and treatment.
This morning, Abigail woke up leaking dark green discharge, and my husband rushed her to the urgent vet, who referred us to the emergency vet. The emergency vet found she is pregnant and 1 pup is dead and the other is alive. The green discharge is from the dead puppy which can cause Abby to become septic and die. We have opted for them to try to induce labor which is about $1,000. If it doesn’t work, she will require an $4,000 surgery to save her life.
Abigail is estimated to be about four years old, and despite everything she’s been through, she is incredibly sweet and trusting.
We try to do our best to help every animal in need that we come across because this area has so many deserted and stray animals. This baby just needs more care than we can currently afford and we really need help from the community to save this very sweet young dog who has clearly had a very hard and difficult life thus far.
