When I was 12, I ran track with times fast enough to win the Junior Olympics. I was also a competitive gymnast winning almost every competition in both sports with aspirations for the Olympics. But then, riding with my parents, we had a head-on collision which left me paralyzed, and instantly killed my parents, who were my best friends and greatest supporters.
Although difficult at times, since then I've lived a full, enriching and active life, as a wheelchair user (which I instantly looked at as just another form of the two sports I loved: going fast, and lifting myself in and out of my chair with my arms, as in gymnastics... my arms were unusually strong!), as I engaged in every opportunity I could find.
There are many wheelchair sports offered for people like me, but I've maintained my athleticism through "racing the track" in my everyday wheelchair (shown in the picture above), not knowing that wheelchair track racing was an actual sport in a specialized chair. However, recently, I discovered that there is a competitive wheelchair sport for track enthusiasts like myself. I'm so excited... I love going fast, and have always been insanely strong, as well as having what I like to brag as "the quickest reflexes on the planet"!
Having just discovered this sport, I want so much to get a track racing chair because my competitive nature is practically bursting to be exercised! These chairs are expensive, technically complex, and have to be precisely custom fit to each individual. I've never wanted to be a charity case, but after much thought, I decided I could be a "CHAIR-ity case." LOL
Please, if you can find it in your heart to donate even the smallest amount to help me live my dream again, I will be so grateful and ecstatic! My plan and objective is to not only compete again, but to also use this as a step up to reach a wider audience, in order to pay it forward, and help others realize that they can go forward and strive to achieve their goals, regardless of their circumstances. I want this to benefit everyone!
Thank you so much!!
