Hearts for Ally & Aleirah - A mama’s fight for her baby girl

Ally is a devoted single mum from Yeppoon, raising two beautiful daughters, both with complex needs and is juggling hospital trips, therapies, and motherhood with everything she has.

Her youngest, sweet six-week-old Aleirah, was born with multiple congenital heart defects.

Her rare heart structure forms a ‘vascular ring’, wrapping around her trachea and oesophagus. With a confirmed tracheo‑oesophageal compression, which is causing exhaustion when feeding, and breathing difficulties. She has been referred as a category 1 for urgent surgery at the Queensland children's hospital.

No parent imagines watching their newborn face such a big battle so early. It’s heartbreaking and terrifying —but Aleirah is deeply loved and will be in the best possible hands.

Aleirah's surgery is especially high risk due her not having the normal backup blood vessels in her brain, so if blood flow drops even briefly, it can easily cause stroke or brain injury and other life long issues.

At home, Ally’s firstborn, Mahli, has significant disabilities and therapy needs.

Having level three autism and being non verbal and currently meeting the criteria for an intellectual disability.

On the assessment of her paediatrician and psychologist, Mahli isn’t able suitable for daycare or mainstream school and requires one-on-one support due to her intensive needs.

Ally has always been her full-time carer, which means she hasn’t been able to work.

She has no family to fall back on, and they are also currently in emergency accommodation for homelessness due to domestic violence and waiting for long term housing.

When Ally travels to Brisbane for appointments, she’s had to access respite through Carer Gateway because there’s no one to care for Mahli while in hospital —but that funding is limited and won’t cover ongoing trips for surgery and follow-ups.

NDIS has also repeatedly refused Mahli for necessary supports. And has limited support hours left. Without a support worker for Mahli, she would have to go into temporary foster care while Ally is with baby—a frightening possibility for any child and mother.

On the 13th of October, Aleirah was admitted to the Rockhampton paediatrics unit as her health began to deteriorate.
She lost weight suddenly and her struggle to breathe and feed became worse, along with many other alarming symptoms.

They are home now, grateful but still on a careful path, Aleirah sent home with a nasogastric (NG) tube and three‑hourly tube feeds, alongside breastfeeding, pumping milk, and the constant cleaning and sterilising of equipment.

It’s a lot for such a tiny girl—and for them all —but she is brave, and they are holding onto hope with every feed, every breath, and every small step forward, To get her strength up to give her the best chances for surgery.

Ally is doing an incredible job holding everything together on her own, but she is exhausted—sleep-deprived, physically and emotionally worn down, and stretched far beyond what one person should have to carry.

There are many appointments ahead and a lot of hours to travel for this family, Many have asked how they can help.

Your support can help lift some of the weight so Ally can focus on where it belongs —being present for her daughters, Allowing Ally to be by Aleirah’s side through surgeries and recovery, while ensuring Mahli has the consistent, necessary support and care she requires.

Your donation will help with support work for big sister, any out of pocket medical expenses and equipment to ease the burden and meals, while they navigate this journey.

There is zero expectation—your love, prayers, and thoughts are already a blessing. If you’re able, any amount truly helps. And if giving isn’t possible right now, sharing this page makes a huge difference.

Thank you for helping Ally and her daughters feel supported every step of the way. Your kindness helps keep this family together and gives these girls the care, stability, and love they deserve, as baby Aleirah fights for her tiny heart.
