Healing After Healthcare is my way of wanting to start a dialogue about an issue that is not talked about nearly enough. We all know that having chronic health conditions can be traumatizing, but many people forget that a big part of that trauma is the various medical treatment and procedure procedures we go through in trying to find the cures for our conditions. My podcast is hoping to bring those conversations out into the open. From personal testimonials made by patients who lived through their own traumatic medical experiences, two doctors and nurses who will explain why going through all of these treatments is necessary for proper healing, and even some medical trauma experts who can give us an idea of how we can change the system that it is more prepared for these circumstances. I personally have had 34 corneal transplants, as well as a number of other medical conditions that have left me in and out of hospitals my entire life. A few years ago, I was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder as a result of all of the procedures I’ve been through, particularly the numerous ones done on me in my early years of development. I want to examine how we could approach this kind of a system differently, possibly finding a way to support patients while they are receiving care as opposed to treating them for their mental health conditions that have developed only after the essential medical care is complete. With your help, we will be able to get this podcast off the ground and start putting out compelling new content very soon.
