Recently we learned that one of our youngest family members, Wiktor (3 years old) is struggling for his life and is in desperate need of a life-saving heart surgery. Please help us raise $36,000 by March 20, 2015 to save Wiktor’s life.
Wiktor Wojnarowski was born in Poland on November 12, 2011. On the day of his birth, he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) where the left side of his heart (left ventricle, mitrial and aortic valves, and the aorta) was not fully developed. What that meant was that his body was not receiving nearly as much oxygen as it needed causing labored breathing, weak pulse, and blue skin resulting from the lack of oxygen-rich blood in his body. HLHS is fatal without proper intervention.
Wiktor needed to undergo a three stage surgical procedure, beginning 2 weeks after his birth and ending before he turned 3 years old. The first two stages were successful but not without challenges that Wiktor was able to fight through. After that, he was able to enjoy a whole year without getting sick, being at home with his loving family.
On July 29, 2014 the Fontan operation, which was supposed to be the last stage in his heart repair treatment, was performed. Wiktor’s parents joyfully expected that after this procedure they would be able to return home and start a “normal” life. However, there were major complications that occurred which forced the doctors to perform emergency operations to keep Wiktor’s heart beating.
After 7 months of being in and out of the hospital, he is still fighting for his life every day. With much monetary investment and minimal health progress due to Poland’s limited medical resources, the only hope in saving his life lies in transporting Wiktor to Germany where he will need to undergo a reoperation of the Fontan procedure.
At this point Wiktor is so weak that he needs to be transported 9 hours in a medically staffed transportation to a hospital in Munster, Germany. It has been a painful and overwhelming process but we as a family believe that the advanced care in Munster hospital will finally give Wiktor the victory he needs.
Please help our Wiktor by contributing to the needed $36,000 for the heart operation and hospital stay in Germany, and help us share his story with others! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Sincerely,
Wiktor’s family
