Hey,
As many of you would most likely know, dragon boating is a sport that we all love and are heavily involved in.
Our team is a combination of teenages and those a little older. We all found ourselves wanting to take on a challenge, so this year we have decided to enter the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic on the 29th of October 2016, a 'short' 65km race that will take a good 8 hours to complete.
The event has been running for 40 years, and this will be the first time any dragon boat has ever entered. The race has always raised funds for the Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation: a small, charitable foundation that raises money for leukaemia research, whilst also providing support to those undergoing leukaemia treatment. The foundation has been operating for more than fifteen years to distribute transplants to patients across 37 hospitals in both Australia and New Zealand. In past years, those involved in the Canoe Classic have donated in excess of $3.3 million to the foundation.
To enter the event our expenses come close to $3000. In saying this we look to our friends and family for support of a small donation, to allow us the opportunity to compete.
Anything would mean the world to us, not only for the great challenge and experience we will endure, but also for the support and contribution going directly to such a great cause.
We thank you in advance and will be sure to keep you updated on our progress.
