Hard to Love painting for Briallen Hopper
Many of us have been moved and inspired by Briallen Hopper's writing. Here's a tangible way we, her friends and readers, can show her how much her work has meant to us.
Recently, Kelly Inouye, a San Francisco artist, displayed an installation called Against the Ropes. Inouye was inspired by women's wrestling shows and by feminist literature, including Bri's Hard to Love.
One of Inouye's paintings is called Hard to Love and was inspired by the way Bri writes about sibling relationships. That painting is wonderful, but it's also very large and very expensive.
Through Marrow Gallery, Inouye is willing to sell a 30x22" study of that painting for $2,000, unframed. This painting would normally go for $2,750, but Inouye is selling it to us at a discount because she's so inspired by Bri's work. She has also offered to add more of the second figure to it.
Bri would never ask her friends to buy something like this for her, but she has affirmed that she would like to own it. Contributing to this effort to buy the painting would be a way of drawing together the community that Bri builds around her—and, as a bonus, supporting a feminist artist and a woman-owned gallery.
