I am not one to ask people for anything, but neither is my sister Karen, and she needs as much help as I can gather for her. The back story, which many of you may know, is that due to a history of Huntington's Disease on his father's side of the family, it is possible that her son is also dealing with this hereditary, degenerative neurological disorder to some degree. Scottie can no longer attend high school in the traditional sense and does his lessons online from home because he has become a bit unstable, physically, and there are liability concerns. Understandably, when she had to explain this to him, he was devastated. I can't even tell you how my heart hurts for them both. We expected rough days ahead, but it is difficult to be prepared for the reality of it.

With all of this, many of you have messaged me asking how you can help, because for my sister, having the money to get him out of the house to do things on a regular basis can be challenging. Her income as a Pre-K Counts teacher is stretched thin, and she has even had to let some home repairs lapse, which is a concern since this is where her son spends all of his time. 

My hope is to collect money for gift cards for things he likes to do (maybe Amazon for his video games and movies when he is housebound and Rita's, Palermo's, Heisler's, etc. so she can get him out now that the weather has improved) and to help her with the things she needs around the house (like Lowe's or Wal-Mart).

If you know my sister, you know she does everything for everyone... usually overextending herself... and never complains. I would love to be able to show her the same level of generosity and kindness that she gives to those she cares about, and make sure that she and Scottie can look forward to some happy days ahead!

So please give what you can and share this with anyone whose lives they touch. Truly, no amount of money or effort or good thoughts (or even just a phone call) is too small in this case.
