 ALWAYS HOPING

We began this journey early November. Hannah came and told us that she had blood in her 'pee.' So we too her to the doctor and she was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. This occurred two more times. With the last round of antibiotics, on the last night of issue, she again came to Ward and I and told us that she had blood in her 'pee.' We had an appointment set with the urologist for Dec. 29th but we felt that we could not wait.

Tanya and Hannah went to Salina on Friday, December, 18th. Dr. Smith palpitated Hannah and immediately Tanya knew something was wrong. He stated that he would like to run more tests that day. So we went off to Salina Regional Health Center. Hannah had a VCUG & sonogram. She had great difficultly after the VCUG passing urine so we were instructed to stay at the hospital until she was able to pass it. Dr. Smith was in surgery all afternoon but was kept updated with our tests.

Hannah finally passed her urine and I thought we were good to go. Dr. Smith told me he would call me with the results as soon as he got out of surgery late that afternoon. BUT then, the radiologist stopped us as we were attempting to leave and told us that Dr. Smith wanted to speak to us about the sonogram results.

So after 1.5 hours of waiting, Dr. Smith arrived. He stated very simply that Hannah had a tumor. A tumor on her right kidney. CANCER - The diagnosis was Wilms Tumor. He was referring us to a ped. urologist at OU Children's Medical Center in Oklahoma City. We were scheduled for a CAT scan on Tuesday, December 22, a meeting with the ped. urologist & oncologist on Wednesday, and then surgery on Thursday for removal of the tumor and her right kidney.

Thus, Hannah's story begins and is coming to a close.......

On Monday, May 9, 2016, Hannah was exhibiting some strange symptoms. In the morning, she was walking differently. Later that afternoon during craft time with friends, she began not using her right arm. Mom called the doctor & an MRI was scheduled. Brain lesion was found at 11:00 pm.

May 14, 2016, we are devastated with the news of palliative care for our daughter. Hannah insists on continuing to try treatments – brain surgery is scheduled for Monday. Radiation & chemo details are being worked out. This is the life that this girl knows and she wants to continue it all. There is NO pressure from us.

The tumors are in her brain, lungs, soft tissue in hip & femur. We are not sure how long she has had the brain, soft tissue, or femur tumors, as we have never scanned her whole body before. We also do not know if her tumors will continue to grow slowly or quickly.

Hannah comes from a large family with 7 brothers & sisters. Her favorite activities are riding her 4 wheeler, care of her calves, goats, chicken, rabbits, and hogs (yes, they are ALL hers), swimming at the lake off the boat, and eating escargot. Her favorite TV show is The Cake Boss. She LOVES the Dallas Cowboys, especially Tony Romo. She loves to travel with her Baba & Didi and hopes to see Paris  & head back to Costa Rica with them. She has so much spirit and strong will. She is my amazing child.

Eleven year-old Hannah has been fighting Wilms Tumor since December 24, 2009. That's more than 1/2 her life. She has fought a mighty battle - we have found out on January 4, 2016 that her tumors are slowing beginning to grow again. Growth in the cancer world is SCARY.

Recently things have taken a turn and her family is trying to fullfill her bucket list.

BUCKET LIST:
She wants to see Paris - eat escargot (her favorite food) & see Effiffel tower.

She wants to bake a cake with CakeBoss - his famous strawberry shortcake made into a calf.

She would like to see where Dallas Cowboys play & see Tony Romo (quarterback)

Lets send Hannah to Paris! I wish we could help her meet Tony Romo and the CakeBoss, but that will take more than money!
