Columbia University Summer Program

Hi! I'm Hannah from Houston, TX, a Junior in High School who is on the Varsity Diving team, a member of the student leadership team at my church, and most importantly an Art Lover.
I recently applied for a highly selective, 3-week Immersion Summer Program hosted by Columbia University (New York City). The Immersion Program gives high school students access to new experiences, techniques, and areas of study. I selected the Painting curriculum track that will expose me to oil painting techniques, principles of color theory, and working with live models.

The reason I applied to this program is because I am very passionate about painting and art and want to pursue studio arts as a career. This opportunity will give me an earlier and more in-depth perspective of what I may get in college and will provide me with more experience and training going into my Senior year of High School.

A Little (more) About Me
A few years ago, my life changed when my father suffered a stroke. Because of that he hasn't been able to work full-time. All while my mom works full time in Adult Education, which is really only enough to provide us with our necessities. I know my parents are proud of me and want me to attend, but this amazing opportunity was outside of their current financial abilities. I've loved art since I was little and it has always had a huge place in my heart, and attending this program in one of America's most influential cities would be a once in a lifetime experience.

The $2500 goal has been reached (yay!) and the rest is due before the program begins in mid-July. The support would mean the world knowing that other people want to help me achieve this goal and eventual career choice of mine.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Every artist was first an amateur” of which I am no different. Thank you for believing in me, my talent and dream as I take the first steps of the journey to become a professional artist!
