We (Joe & Judy Hart) are setting up this account for our friends Patrick and Carmen Hamilton and their four precious kids of Hallsville, TX. Over the past five years we have watched in awe as Patrick and Carmen attend every basketball game, cheer competition, baseball and softball games, etc... while both working a full time job. Anyone who knows them knows that if you say hello to either of them you will be greeted with a warm smile and they never seem to be too busy to chat even though you know they are crazy busy. Carmen and Patrick are genuinely kind and loving people, who love God and we have been blessed by their friendship and we just want to help them.
A couple of months ago they had a major medical life event that has significantly impacted their family financially. Their current medical bills are now in excess of $220,000 and still growing, not to mention their everyday bills and expenses. No donation is too small, anything you give will be greatly appreciated.
Rather than us trying to tell their story, we are sharing a Facebook post from Carmen’s page. In Carmen’s words:
(Post on March 6, 2016) “Major Life Curve Ball...Emergency Surgery. What a whirlwind of a few weeks we have had. Patrick got sick before Valentine ’s Day with what we thought was a virus or the flu. When he started to have mild abdominal pain a couple of days later, we went to the Dr. to find out it was Diverticulitis and bloodwork showed he had a significant infection with his white blood cell count being 28,000. (11,000 is high) We started a strong antibiotic regimen and went back 2 days later with his WBC starting to come down and Instructions that if he got any worse to go to ER. 5 days later he was so weak but fever was gone and he wasn't hurting anymore. However, we knew he was not improving enough. A 3rd trip to the Dr. showed his WBC at 55,000! and an x-ray found free air in the abdomen which would indicate a rupture or tear. We had strict orders to get straight to the hospital where he was taken into surgery pretty quick. One of the diverticula had abscessed and ruptured (probably 3 to 5 days before), and toxins had been spilling out into his abdomen causing everything to be at risk. His kidneys were barely functioning. Other abscesses had formed where the "yuck" had collected, and his intestines were like dried super glue the surgeon said. Scary! He was critically sick. Septic. We were blessed with an outstanding surgeon who began to work to repair him and clean him out. He was scheduled to have another clean out surgery 3 days later where they would check to see if the repairs were holding up. The danger was that if they had not begun to soften, things could fall apart. Those were a scary few days in ICU, but we kept praying and trusting the Lord. The 2nd surgery revealed that things are starting to heal, and that there was very little to clean out...just that everything was incredible swollen and "angry". We got moved down from ICU to a room where we are daily working to regain strength to walk and eat. We have been blessed to have our parents helping take care of the children and our home. This is the first chance I've had to type up what's going on, but word trickled out through the grapevine. We are so grateful for the texts and cards and visits and flowers and acts of kindness, but most of all the Prayer. **Please remember Patrick in your prayers.** We are asking for a complete healing of everything that was damaged and for his strength and appetite to return. His kidneys are working great now. His WBC is slowly coming down after 2 weeks now on IV antibiotics, last check was 16,000. He is anxious to get back to work and to being with his kids...and to our crazy little life that we call normal.”
(Post on April 6, 2016) “UPDATE on Patrick. He was hospitalized with blood clots in his leg and is now at home resting and on blood thinner waiting for them to dissolve. He can now stand for a short time but could not at all for about a week (lots of pain when he did) Praying and Believing they will dissolve completely soon and be a distant memory so he can get back to his Road to a full recovery. Thank you all so much for every prayer and kindness you all have given our family. Keep praying! ♡ Friends are Priceless!”
Back to OUR words:
Patrick is still unable to go back to work and we’re not sure when the doctors will release him to work. We are asking for any donation amount, but most of all prayers for Patrick and the family. PLEASE SHARE THIS ON FACEBOOK!!
