Please take a few moments to read this about my beautiful friend, Haley, who is facing one of the most difficult times of her life. If you are unable to contribute, please share and keep Haley and her family in your prayers.

Back in October, Haley was having girls’ night with a friend when she noticed a lump on her neck. Haley pointed it out to her friend but they ended up chalking up to a likely pulled muscle since after all, Haley is a "boy mom".

She really didn’t experience any other symptoms until late December when she felt a strange sense of pressure in her neck. At that point, she decided to go to the doctor for a professional opinion. Haley visited Emergency MD the first week of January 2020, where she was told it was probably a lipoma (a fatty tumor that isn’t really a cause for concern). While the diagnosis was comforting, something just didn’t feel right. Thankfully, Haley trusted her gut and went for a second opinion the following week. An ultrasound at that visit revealed a complex, vascular lump in her neck, immediately ruling out the potential of it being a lipoma.

A biopsy revealed it was likely lymphoma and an MRI showed a large mass surrounding her heart. Within 3 days, Haley found herself in surgery having a lymph node removed with the hope of learning more about her likely lymphoma. As Haley was waiting to be wheeled back to surgery, she was informed that due to the size of the mass surrounding her heart, it simply wasn’t safe to put her under anesthesia. The lymph node had to come out, meaning Haley had to undergo the entire surgery completely awake and aware, with only local numbing medication and a small curtain blocking her view.  This was by far one of the scariest moments of her life, but she Haley thought of her family and persevered.

Once the lymph node was removed and analyzed, the pathology report confirmed Haley has Hodgkin’s lymphoma… words no one ever wants to hear.

Today, January 22nd 2020, Haley had her first visit with her oncologist, Dr. Buck. Haley will be undergoing biweekly chemotherapy and it was also suggested that she freeze her eggs before treatment if she ever plans on having another child, both of which will be extremely costly.

The past two weeks of Haley’s life have been an absolute whirlwind, so much so that I’m not entirely sure she has even had time to process everything, much less come up with a game plan. Haley has done everything on her own since the birth of her son, Roman, in 2013. Her number one goal in life has been to create as good of a life as possible for Roman. As a single mom, it hasn’t been the easiest journey. Two years ago, this month, she met the love of her life, Arturo. I am so thankful she has Arturo and her loving family to support her through this new chapter.

At a time in her life when she should be building a life with her partner and son, thinking about marriage and potentially growing her family, she is faced with one of the most difficult challenges one can imagine. At only 29, no one expected this and it is certainly something no one is ever prepared for.

At a time like this, the last thing she should be thinking about is losing her home or not being able to put food on her family’s table. Her monthly bills, including a high deductible private insurance plan, total $2500. Haley has an $8000 individual deductible before her insurance plan kicks in at all. Dr. Buck and his team are working with Haley to estimate the cost of chemotherapy and she will have to consult a fertility specialist for an estimate for freezing her eggs if she decides to go that route. Not to mention the income loss from all of the missed work in the upcoming months. My goal for this fundraiser is to help offset Haley’s financial burden and allow her to focus on her health and family.

For those of you that know Haley, you already know that she is one of the most beautiful souls that you will ever meet. For those of you that don’t, I hope one day you will the privilege of meeting her.. I have known Haley for 8 years now and in that time, I have learned that she is one of the most selfless individuals you will ever meet. Haley goes out of her way to foster relationships with local charities and to spread her passion with others. Now she needs that same care and compassion. I honestly can’t think of anyone less deserving of this than her.

Only considering her $8,000 deductible, 6 months of missed wages, and GoFundMe fees, I came up with a figure just shy of $25,000, so I think that is a fitting starting goal that can be raised as we are given more information.

Please consider contributing to take a little bit of weight off Haley’s shoulders. If you are unable to contribute monetarily, please keep Haley and her family in your prayers and share this far and wide. If anyone has any fundraising ideas, please share them with me or head on over to the Facebook page, Haley’s Hope, to share your ideas with her sister, Love Threat.

I will add to this thread regularly as we learn more about Haley’s prognosis and expenses. All money raised on this page will go directly to Haley’s expenses and care. This fundraiser was published with her direct consent. Please feel free to reach out to me directly or to Haley through Haley’s Hope with any questions or recommendations. Please be mindful of the fact that Haley has a lot on her plate at the moment, and may not be able to respond to all individual emails, texts, and calls.

Thank you all for your love and support!
