COVID CRISIS IN INDIA – WE CAN HELP
Note: Holmdel Indian Association (HIA) is a registered 501(C)(4) non-profit organization and donations made to the HIA are not tax deductible.
India's current COVID-19 surge is an unprecedented public health crisis. Over 4,500 people succumbed to COVID in India over a just 24-hour period as over 260,000 new cases were registered. Experts suggest these figures undercount the actual toll as testing is limited in some places, particularly in rural areas currently experiencing a surge in cases. Patients are dying at home due to overwhelmed medical facilities and lack of beds. As life slowly gets back to normal here at home, it is heart-breaking to see India battle the world's biggest COVID-19 wave.
The Holmdel Indian Association (HIA) with support from The Alliance of Chinese Americans at Holmdel is launching a fund raising drive to support people in India through these challenging times. Our goal is to raise $200,000, which will be used for emergency medical supplies. To help with the crippling shortages of medical-grade oxygen in India, we have sourced 200 of the hard to find 10 liter oxygen concentrators which can be funded by this drive.
We are collaborating with local experts like Dr. Rajesh Mohan* who is a Interventional Cardiologist in Lakewood, NJ with decades of experience in the medical field and Charik Sethi who is the Founder and CEO of Clever Health, Inc. and local charities Serve Humanity Foundation (SHF)** and Global Impact Foundation to make sure that we are connected to real people on the ground in India so our donations have the maximum impact.
This situation requires immediate attention and we hope that you will support our initiative with a sense of urgency.
*Dr. Rajesh Mohan is the Former Chief Medical Officer, Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, RWJBarnabas Health with a demonstrated history of achieving immediate as well as sustained results in leadership roles in healthcare. He is the author of COVIDSLAYERS - How we can win and what really went wrong - A physician leader’s experiences from the frontlines. He is quadruple board certified (Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology) with a rare combination of clinical, administrative, management and entrepreneurial skills with extensive teaching experience in graduate medical education.
**Serve Humanity Foundation (SHF) is a non-government organization that aims to provide healthcare access to the underserved and underprivileged communities. This organization is based on the principle “we rise by lifting others” and providing welfare to all who need it. Our organization continues to provide access to basic needs, medical access, and education to all.
