6.30am on Friday morning we woke up to Dylans phone buzzing and received the news about the three alarm fire at m0xy, the artist warehouse space where Dylans fabrication business Skiff is at. 6.30am is about the same time the firefighters arrived to the scene and even though that was only ten minutes after the alarm came in, the fire was roaring and it took about 55 firefighters and 4,5 hours to put it out...
Good news - no people got physically injured and out of m0xy's 30 businesses the majority of the space and businesses are ok!
The bad news is that ten art spaces and businesses are completely destroyed and Dylans shop is one of them.
All tools, all paints, materials, equipment and machines. The years of building and setting up shop, of financial investments in making the space workable, functional and safe. The CNC router Dylan invested in last year, the months of work on current projects stored - it is all gone. It is unbelievable and feels surreal.
This is Dylans and his family's main livelihood, and the main source of income for an additional three artistic fabricators and two designers. In order to not loose more time and get back on track on current projects, SKIFF is needing to find a temporary equipped shop to work out of as well as permanent and there are some good leads. Help with funding for first and last months rent will be essential. To start up SKIFF asap, hopefully already this week, Dylan will need to purchase new tools for him and his team and material for the current projects.
We are grateful for every dollar to help SAVE SKIFF!
