DIXIE FIRE DESTROYS CANYON DAM STORE AND HISTORIC BEAR CARVING CENTER OF THE NORTHERN SIERRA MOUNTAINS
Hello To All. My Name is Spencer Girvin and I'm Starting this fundraiser on behalf of "Mike Girvin" owner of the "Canyon Dam Country Store & RV park, Canyon Dam Bears", and "Canyon Dam Dogs" - Canyon Dam California,
I am Mike's Younger Brother living in Ventura County, Southern California. 100% of all donations will go to only Mike Girvin Direct
THIS IS WHERE WE CAN HELP !! PLEASE DONATE ANYTHING YOU CAN GIVE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE UP CLOSE AND DIRECT
IN SOMEONE'S LIFE THANK YOU FROM ALL MIKE'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS
*** MIKE AND DOGS ARE SAFE AND SOUND ***
Also lost was a doublewide Mobil home. his sister Pam lived in, and his workhorse Tractor, Trailers, and Generator along with most of the Canyon Dam community succumbed to the massive Dixie Fire. everything was destroyed.
As with many folks, financial hardships by the pandemic forced Mike like many to be been left with no insurance. Now Mike only has a couple sets of clothes and a few personals items you can grab while fleeing
from a raging forest fire and stuff in a truck along with 3 Dogs and no insurance of much help or much of a savings. Working class folks working paycheck to paycheck living a Dream.
Lets not let this be a Nightmare!!
Please help Mike today. Thank you
"WHERE THE ASHES MAY FALL LEGENDS WILL RISE"
****************************************************************************************************************************************
Mike Girvin's love of Canyon Dam and his Passion of providing to his community. Such as, providing everyday store essentials, to Bear & Eagle Carving's, fishing supplies; and lets not forget ICE, Beer, Soda and ice cream free for kids on hot days, or a hot cup of Coffee on a snowy morning.
Upon learning of the fate of his County Store, Mike Girvin knew instantly has many seemingly insurmountable challenges ahead. With ongoing recovery from major heart surgery. The financial challenges of the Pandemic brought to his business and "Mike being Mike" of the character he is, he won't accept another option; but to attempt to "bring back the RV park and Country Store". Bringing Canyon Dam Country Store back to once again be there for all the Las Plumas County and travelers needs.
Mike came to Canyon Dam from Goleta, CA, around 1995 and took to the Canyon Dam life he was meant to be in.
Besides running the store, Mike's instrumental involvement in Canyon Dams area 12 step recovery program for 25 years , his ongoing personal involvement in many life mentorships, interventions, and just being there for any one who needed it. Mike lives to help others unconditionally and to this day continues to do so. Through his years in northern California, Mike has made many financial and service contributions to charity causes, and local needs as well. Mike and his team of Bear Carvers led By Dan Forschler commonly make Donations of highly prized carvings of Bears and local wildlife Carvings for charities to auction/sale.
Some of the organizations are
Bears on the Ridge
Ducks Unlimited
Lookout towers projects
and many others.
Mike's Always been a Mountain, Sea, and Snow kind of guy so he fit right in up here in Los Plumas County. Mike's others contributions back to the community have come in the way of Sports. Softball Leagues to be to the point. Mike has for 60 years played our national past time and in his last 40 years at a very high level of including his involvement with Santa Barbara and Plumas Counties recreational league's . Not to mention he was a key driving force in organizing multiple Sober Softball leagues known for extremely high level play. Now I'm sure Mike inspired many Los Plumas and Santa Barbara County Youth as well. When someone mentions his accolades he just tells you "nah,", "its isn't no big deal". But just ask a couple world class touring league teams he's played with including, Code Blue and Byron Sports club Teams. Mike was always the player coach type because Mike is that "Guy" that spends more "Blood, Sweat, and Tears" than who he's helping.
There will be many days, months and even years for the cleanup, projects, immediate property related financial and personal restoration work needed, brought on by the devastating #DixieFire . In addition, with displacement costs, health, legal, pets, bills and plenty of other related costs, these needs and challenges will help Mike get the Canyon Dam store up and running once again. So Mike can continue with his health recovery and limitations.
