Help Christopher Fielden Recover from Hurricane Helene

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Chloe. My dear friend Christopher Fielden tragically lost his home and 99% of his belongings due to historic flooding from Hurricane Helene. He also lost his two long-term rental units, his barn, tractor, and greenhouses. Tons of debris and deep mud were deposited on his land and it is a scene of tragic devastation. This is what is left of the barn and rental unit:

He didn’t have flood insurance and the FEMA inspector said that Christopher’s house is a complete write-off.

The funds raised through this campaign are essential to support Christopher in recovering from this devastation and to help rebuild his life.

Who is Christopher?

Christopher is a much loved and dedicated member of the Swannanoa Community. He cultivated a strong community built around a love of the natural world and growing food. Christopher devoted the past 18+ years of his life to creating a beautiful homestead and farm offering short and long-term housing, hosting gatherings and workshops, educating interns, and opening his home and farm to others. Many people know Christopher from the Asheville Herb Festival and other plant sales where he sold plant starts as Red Wing Farm. Other folks will know him from his time working and mentoring at Warren Wilson College. For many years, Christopher has worked as an ADA accessibility consultant helping architects design their facilities to be accessible for people with disabilities.

Grateful to be alive!

All things considered, Christopher reports that he is doing well and can feel the grace and the opportunity amid the incredible suffering and loss. He remains optimistic and resilient. He says he feels grateful to be alive and healthy when so many people are not. He is humbled by the love and support he is receiving from his beloved community. For the time being he is being housed at CCLD, the Center for Conscious Living and Dying, where he works as a volunteer providing end-of-life care for those in their dying days.

Christopher has a long road to recovery. Please consider donating and sharing this campaign to help Christopher recover from this heartbreaking and life-altering event.

With deep gratitude, thank you for your support!
