The devastating news of the wildfires in Maui and the Big Island has struck the very soul of our community. The vibrant historic town of Lahaina, once a bustling touristic gem, now lies in ruins. Early estimates of the catastrophe show hundreds of small businesses in despair, claimed over 111 lives, and affected more than 1700 homes.
Lahaina has a Hispanic population that is 22.5% higher than the entire state of Hawaii. Furthermore, due to the prevalence of service-oriented jobs populated by Hispanics, we observe that Hispanic workers from various locations are impacted.
Our brothers and sisters in Maui and Big Island need our help. They are our extended business family. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Hawaii, a charitable 501c3 non-profit, stands ready to support these small businesses affected, employees, and their families.
Now is the time for us to come together, guided by the deep values of family, empathy, and solidarity that are the very essence of our Hispanic heritage. Our collective strength is needed more than ever to act swiftly and bring hope to those affected in Maui and Big Island, Hawaii.
We urge you to support the Hawaii Disaster Business Relief Fund of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Hawaii. Every dollar you give will go directly to those small business owners, their employees, and families affected by the disaster. Stand with us, stand with Hawaii, and let's make a difference today for those more affected by this unprecedented disaster.
The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Hawaii stands in support of the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii, and our neighbor islands Maui Chamber of Commerce, Kona-Kohala & Hawaii Island Chambers of Commerce.
