Imagine needing surgery or medical care but having no access to a surgeon or medical doctor. Living with chronic pain because there’s no specialist nearby. Watching a loved one suffer simply because the care they need doesn’t exist where they live.
This is the daily reality for many families in parts of Guyana, but together, we can change that.
Guyana Medical Mission (GMM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2005 by Dr. James T. Cort and the late Dr. Berman O. Saunders. For nearly two decades, GMM has been committed to delivering free, high-quality medical care to underserved communities across Guyana and building the future of healthcare from the inside out.
What We Do
Each year, GMM’s all-volunteer medical teams travel to Guyana to provide clinical care, perform surgeries, and offer specialist services that are often unavailable locally. GMM also mentors and trains local providers, helping to build a lasting healthcare capacity.
Services include:
- GYN and Oncology Care
- General, Urologic, and Orthopedic Surgery
- Anesthesiology and Pain Management
- Rheumatology
- Vision and Eye Care
- Gastrointestinal (GI) Services
- Pediatric Services
- Internal Medicine
- Training for local specialists and frontline providers
GMM serves hundreds of patients during each mission — some of whom are seeing a doctor for the first time in years. From life-changing surgeries to simply relieving chronic pain, the Mission’s work brings relief, dignity, and renewed hope to many.
