Gus is my yellow lab, soul mate, and love of my life. We’ve been together since he was 9 weeks old.
He’s a goofy guy with the looks of a supermodel.
He’s a goofy guy with the looks of a supermodel.
He protects the house with his manly bark, but is really a sensitive boy who wouldn’t hurt a soul.
He gives the best hugs in the world, and knows when to comfort with a paw.
He is truly a special little sir who touches the heart of everyone he meets.
He is also in a long-term relationship with his common law wife/life partner, golden retriever and my roommate’s dog, Harper.
In August 2019 Gus’s mobility began declining rapidly. We had multiple vet visits with no answers. By late September he could only get around by dragging his hind legs for short stints. He began having accidents laying down and not wanting to get up to go outside.
Then one day he didn’t pee for 24 hours and we went to the emergency vet. After a neurological exam and an MRI, they determined Gus had a cancerous tumor on his spine. It was recommended that we do surgery to remove the tumor, followed up by radiation treatments.
I’m happy to say Gus had the surgery in October 2019 and is recovering phenomenally well!
He can walk and potty on his own and is interested in playing ball again! He is like a whole new pup with a new zest for life!
Now, due to the location of the tumor on his spine, they could not remove all the cancer cells. Gus’s best chance for long term recovery is radiation treatments, 5 days a week for 4 weeks.
We’ve come so far, and I want to give Gus the best chance at a healthy life, for the rest of his life. His personality and spirit cannot be rivaled. Minus this setback, he is a healthy, happy boy with a vitality for life.
So here we go, all the vet visits and surgery have cost a lot. Everything, leading up to and including the surgery, cost approximately $10,000. The estimate for future imaging and radiation treatments is approximately $10,000 as well.
