Grayson's story starts in September of 2013 at the young age of 5. What started as frequent urination, bed wetting and constant thirst landed him in the hospital for a week in Ketoacidosis and a new way of life for our family. Grayson was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. The body's immune system destroys the cells that release insulin - a hormone produced in the pancreas and which enables sugar, or glucose, to be used for energy. Technically speaking...his body does not produce insulin. Grayson checks his blood sugar 8-10 times a day by pricking his finger. He endured shots 5-6 times a day until about a year ago when his doctor approved him to get an inuslin pump. The pump administers the insulin when he eats or if he has a high blood sugar. Grayson is very aware of the disease that has taken over his body and is very good at helping control what goes in his mouth. Even though we manage his diabetes with the best care that we can he still has frequent "highs" and "lows". A low consist of his legs shaking and blood sugar dropping below 90. A high consist of extreme thirst and a blood sugar over 150. We are on the waiting list for a Diabetic Alert Dog. These dogs are highly trained and will help alert when Grayson's blood sugars drop or are increasing. That is where you come in! We need help with the financial side of the dog. We as Grayson's parents both work full time jobs and provide all that we can for Grayson and his brother. The cost of these dogs are WELL WORTH it for us because He/She could save our son's life! We will be forever thankful and most important so grateful for each and every donation.
100 % of the funds will go towards the dog and the expenses that we will incur having to travel to Concordia, Kansas to pick the dog up when he/she is ready.
