Who is Jon Cates?

You probably already know him! He is the guy who sings at church every Sunday. He is the guy who is always putting on a play for the Snellville Arts Committee and playing the famous Snelldiana Jones. He is the guy who loves his family more than life and is always the one to volunteer to help out. He is the guy at every basketball game and swim meet that his grandkids play in. He is the guy you see on TV and in movies like Rocky 3, Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, and ET! He is the guy who picks the chocolate ice cream overanything else every chance he gets, and he has the most contagious smile you have ever seen. He is the guy always up for a road trip, no matter where or how far! He is Gramps!

What is going on:

About 15 years ago Jon had Melanoma Cancer. The cancer was removed and no other signals flared that he would have to worry about this any more. About a month ago he had some trouble comprehending words on the TV screen and with his peripheral vision. The doctors ordered a MRI and found 4 masses in his brain. 2 in his frontal lobe, 1 in his cerebellum, and the largest one in his occipital lobe. This clearly was the root of the problem.
Only 5 days after finding this,(endo of July) Jon underwent brain surgery to remove the biggest mass. The surgery went well. The doctors did a biopsy and found that his cancer was back. The cancer is stage 4 and very aggressive. Jon has now undergone whole brain radiation for 10 days to try and shrink the masses, but has refused to do chemotherapy.
After all this, Jon had some trouble breathing, and went to the hospital. Now Jon has clots in his lungs and legs. Because of this doctors recomended a blood thinner to remove immeiate risks of strokes, however this was very risky as his brain surgery was less than a month ago. He is more prone to bleeding, and we are watching him to keep it under control as it comes up. Soon Jon will start physical therapy and hopefully get to

How to Help:
Any donation is more than appreciated by the family. It means so much to have you all as a support system. The funds raised will go towards medical bills and further expenditures needed to get Gramps the treatment he needs.

Thank You
To all those who have donated, prayed, or even thought about the family throughout these weeks… THANK YOU! The family appreciates all the kind words and thoughtfulness that has been provided more than anyone could ever know. Each of you have created a tremendous impact in smoothing this process out for the family. You are greatly appreciated.
