This is so hard for us to even ask of our friends and family but we need any help we can get. With the pandemic causing so many people we know to be without work I feel guilty even asking. My husband, myself and our 2 year old son are currently living in New Orleans and had just moved here last summer from Southern California to start a new chapter in our lives in a new location where we could afford to eventually own a home. While we didn’t fall in love with it here and had planned to relocate once we were able to save our safety net again; we are now attempting to flee the area due to concerns over our safety due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
My husband works on the front lines doing mortuary transport while I am a case manager for the homeless community in our city. We are both fortunate to be employed during this difficult time, however, our city is not taking proper precautions in our fields. We are both not receiving the support to do our jobs safely with the rapidly climbing number of COVID-19 cases in our city. To give you an idea, New Orleans has 1/26th of the population Los Angeles has and now has more COVID-19 cases with the number doubling every 2 days. My husband and his coworkers have not been offered testing at this time, even though they are being exposed to patients who have died from the virus as well as others who were exposed in the facilities and homes.
So we are humbly asking for anything you can spare. Due to our move to NOLA just 9 months ago we have used a lot of our savings to get here and could never have predicted such a catastrophic event as I’m sure so many of you are also trying to make it through in one piece. Please do not donate if you’ve been laid off or displaced from your jobs. Please do not donate if you’re in hardship as well. We will make it through this together. Thank you everyone from the bottom of our hearts.
