Kaiser’s Fight with Cancer

Donation protected
(09/20/2023 UPDATE AT BOTTOM)

ORIGINAL GoFundMe POST:

Kaiser was adopted in March of 2019 from the Fremont Humane Society. Our whole family quickly fell in love with him and he is the "goodest" boy! On 6/7/23 we took him to the vet for a painful squishy bump above his right eyebrow, but the vet thought it was merely a bee sting and told us to keep an eye on it. On 6/29/23 we took him back to the vet because the bump was hardening and getting bigger, but no longer painful. The vet did an X-ray and thought it was Osteosarcoma, as did the radiologist. On 7/3/23 we got a second opinion and that vet thought it could be an injury, cancer, or infection. Those were some vastly different diagnoses so we wanted to find out the cause. On 7/10/23 we opted for a bone biopsy to get a definitive answer! On 7/18/23, our lives changed when the vet called and confirmed that he had a rare MLO tumor or Multilobularosteochondrosarcoma- whew that's a long word! Our initial plan when we thought it was Osteosarcoma was to travel with him and receive the "Yale" vaccine in a trial study that is helping so many pups, however with the results of the bone biopsy he is now ineligible due to the type of cancer he has. So now we are going a different direction. On 7/26/23 he had his first oncology consultation where we found out that the best option is surgery but he needs to get a CT scan to make sure they can remove the whole tumor! We will know more about treatment options going forward but have to wait for the team of specialists to discuss his case! So far surgery is the best option but if they are unable to remove the full tumor with clean margins, then that's where the costs really increase with having to also incorporate stereotactic radiation- which is cutting edge and precisely targets the tumor. He will most likely require a second CT scan at some point as well as multiple continuous diagnostic tests, medications and consultations. All funds will be solely used for his treatment. I will be updating with estimates and receipts. We will also get a second oncology opinion next week... as many furbaby parents have recommended. Kaiser is a fighter but we need lots of support as we navigate this situation. We are devastated by this unexpected news but are remaining hopeful. Thank you for sharing this journey with us and we would love it if you would follow along Kaiser's side!

09/13/2023 UPDATE:

GOOD NEWS:
Thank you to everyone who helped support Kaiser. Because of you, Kaiser was able to get the CT scan and the radiation he so desperately needed. Kaiser received 5 rounds of Stereotactic radiation which is a targeted therapy that precisely zapped the tumor on his skull. It was the best option for him and he had minimal side effects. This would NOT have been possible without YOU! Thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts, for helping our boy!

"BAD" & GOOD NEWS:
Unfortunately small lung lesions were spotted on Kaiser's first CT scan, however on his second CT scan they did NOT spread or grow any further! Thankfully, Kaiser was accepted into the "Yale Vaccine" trial study in Phoenix, AZ. This trial study is saving and extending the lives of other pups that are battling the same (lung mets) cancer as Kaiser! As part of the study, we will need to travel with Kaiser to Phoenix, AZ three times.

Since the GoFundMe donations were exhausted on Kaiser's Radiation treatment, (thankfully) we still had donations left over from: TikTok, Venmo, CashApp, & PayPal. With those donations we were able to fund our first and second trip to Phoenix, AZ where Kaiser received his first and second dose of the vaccine with no side effects.

Sadly, at this time (09/20/2023) ALL donations have been exhausted and we are short roughly $2,000 (for Gas, Food, Lodging) to be able to complete this final trip from Hutto, TX to Phoenix, AZ (10/08/2023) the remaining funds after the trip will help with the follow up 4 X-ray's (1 every 3 months at local vet for a year) to fulfill the requirements of the Yale Vaccine trial study.

We have started a new GoFundMe for this $2,000 goal which can be accessed by going to this link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-kaiser-get-to-arizona-for-his-cancer-vaccine
