This time next year, I see myself recording 3 music videos, travelled to 2 heritage countries and 1 grand album that will represent the journey I have been on thus far…
I am an Artist who has been creating since the age of 8. I left Greenwich Music Services ant 15 with a Grade 4 in Clarinet. Graduating Plumstead Manor with an A in GCSE Music, I embarked Access Creative College in 2016- graduating with Merits in Vocal Artistry and Artistic Development by 2018. Since, I have not ever looked back, relentlessly pursuing as many creative and musical opportunities as possible.
But it is hard when the strategy to develop is underfunded where Covid slowed down my momentum and my networks have ascertained higher costs of access. In 2025 I have made over 10 funding applications and I have not been granted more than even 3, throughout the pursuit of my career.
To take initiative, I have been apart of the entertainment industry in opportunities such as Live Performance, Actor/Extra/Supporting Artist/Personality roles, Plus Size Modelling (E-Com and Catwalk) and even Event Security.
Furthermore, during the COVID19 lockdown I got back in touch with a life skill that I was taught from young and got back in touch with to strengthen Breathwork. Then, I became qualified as a Swimming Instructor through my experience at the Black Swimming Association and Better Gym. Which I have contributed to different lives and explored working with all ages and abilities- facilitating a safe space in water where people learn about themselves the most.
I have overcome Youth Homelessness- I left home at 15 years old and joined DePaul UK as an ambassador; getting in the Gemma Gaines show on BBC, going to Parliament and performing original songs for a global fundraiser- the Big World Sleepout (across 60 countries) to a crowd of over 2000 people in Trafalgar Square, London as a success story of DePaul Uk, alongside Helen Mirren & RagnBone Man.
Thereafter, I facilitated for King’s Trust, Irene Taylor Trust, Lewisham Youth Theatre and was recognised as a Dynamic Young Leader by Peabody in 2015, before this journey even started.
In 2024, I took part in the Southbank’s Meltdown launched Choir for Chaka Khan (and Anaiis), as well as being Commissioned by the Arts Council to create an Anthem for the Local Community which formed a Choir too.
I have involvement with my local community to the point where I attend Focus Groups and been running a Community Choir 2 years for people to freely use their voices. As the Music and Creative Director, I have attracted the likes of ITV News, GDIF, Community Hospice and many more.
This is on top of monthly busking sessions to gain traction, new money and experiences while exposing my work authentically to attract organic crowds in person, but there are only so many hours in a day. I chose to balance a lot. Yet I don’t complain.
There’s always more to do. I am a dreamer… But with your help I can be a Visionary.
Somehow, before you advise me to choose one lifestyle, I want you to realise that you can be anything you want to be given best use of Free Will… so why would I want to be the basic or least impactful version of me; when a combination of great creativity is unbreakable?
If you have ever believed in a dream that has been called to action then this funding is for you. This money is going back into the empowerment of myself and the communities that I am apart of, as well as building up. Because I cannot pour from an empty cup. I need to lead by example but if I don’t have the budget independently then I will work on what does help- community. But I am a developing Artist and would like the chance to prove that through the release of my music. That’s Studio, Mastering, Substenance, and Creative Time itself in costs and way more when I’m talking Visually.
How can I be a recording artist who hasn’t created her own music video? Although, you can’t shame the shameless! I am doing my best and I’ll still do more.
But with your support, I can give back into my Artistry more fruitfully and give better impact without looking over my shoulder or solely relying on my Community Projects which I love. However, doing my best to operate Community Projects alone from a place of need creates Burnout and Resentment which I am avoiding yet it’s the only way I have seen more constructive and consistent support. If you know anyone with hands in help I am happy to take it on.
I am only as resourceful as my awareness and action gets me. So this is an action I am willing to take to follow my dreams- what are you doing for yours… and most importantly what are you going to do for ME?
This next chapter planned is exciting for J Cocoa but I cannot do it without you, your help and generosity! You… that took the time to personally, privately and patiently see me, today. Actively viewing where I’m at in my career… What will your reaction be, now that you know- I need your help?!
Thank you for your time and energy spent reading this message. If you felt inspired in any way, please share that reciprocally through supporting the kid financially, showing up to performances or projects and sharing my journey with others.
In the words of Tesco’s, “every little helps” but I prefer the words of Galaxy- “why have Cotton when you can have Silk”?! ;)
