In 1996, at the age of 6, New Brunswick's very own Kate Campbell began training in Chito-Ryu karate at the New Maryland Karate Club just outside Fredericton. Ten months later she entered her first provincial karate tournament finishing 1st in kata and sparking a flame inside of her that continues to burn brighter with each new triumph.
Already having won the National Championships 10 times, Kate is current member of the Karate New Brunswick team and has been a member of Karate Canada’s National Team since 2006. Last January, Kate achieved a bronze medal at the Paris Open and in November placed 5th in Japan.
Other recent competition results include:
2015 North American Champion
2015 Pan American Games Silver Medalist
2016 Rotterdam Netherlands, Bronze Medalist
Kate is currently ranked 16th in the world in the women's -55kg category and is on track to make the Olympic team.
2018 is the qualifying year for the 2020 Olympics and it is critical that Kate attend as many international events as possible in order to accumulate points to qualify. In addition to training up to 25 hours per week and all of the travelling to national and international competitions, Kate is working full time to make ends meet.
The cost of attending just the international events in order to qualify for the 2020 Olympics is well over $20,000.
You can help Kate achieve her Olympic dreams by becoming a sponsor. All contributions are greatly appreciated and 100% of all funds raised (with the exception of Go Fund ME’s administrative fees) are collected by our association treasure Linda Corbett and issued directly to Kate to assist with all of her traing and competition costs.
Please share this sponsorship drive with all of your contacts in both the Karate world and beyond. If you own a business or know of someone that is interested in sponsoring an Olympic athlete, please let us know.
Let’s show the whole world that as a community, we Canadians stand behind our athletes who make us all very proud. In 2020 when Kate takes the podium, you can smile knowing you helped her get there.
