Jen’s Cancer Battle

Donation protected
In the beginning of June 2020, my Mom Jen who is 44 years old, was diagnosed with Breast Sarcomas Cancer. This Cancer is a very rare form, resulting in less than 1% of people who are diagnosed with Cancer will be Sarcomas. My Mom just happens to be that 1%. This form of Breast Cancer is unlike any other, which normally would start in the milk duct of the breast. In Sarcomas, the Cancer begins to grow in the connective tissue, which supports the duct and the lobules of the breast. This type of Cancer is very high grade, which means they divide and develop rapidly. Therapy is aimed at preventing the Cancer from coming back in the breast, and will include surgery such as wide excision, in which the tumour and extra tissue are removed, or mastectomy, in which the whole breast is removed.

Since June, my Mom Jen, has gone through 8 rounds of 3 hour+ Chemotherapy, and has needed injection steroids after Chemo to keep her immune system strong (especially in the times we are all faced with right now with COVID-19). She needed to take these injections the weeks between Chemo (bi weekly). My Mom was, and is, still also taking prescribed medication, which my family is paying for out of pocket. My Mom is now in recovery of her first surgery.

Unfortunately, we got a call that the Cancer had spread to the lymph nodes, and she will now need a second surgery. After this Cancer is removed on December 10th, my Mom will go for Radiation in the New Year, and then be faced with (hopefully) one last surgery to end her battle with Cancer once she is fully recovered.

My family has been in contact with the Trillium Health Benefit, to provide some assistance, but we have ran into a few issues. My mom ran a Cafeteria at a High School in the West End of Ottawa, and ended up losing her job, there for not having any health converge. It was then mine and my family’s responsibility to provide finically as much as we could to make sure that my Mom could be provided with the medication she needed during, and after, her treatments.

Due to COVID-19 I have now lost my job and live on my own, and my Grandparents are on a pension, and now we do not have the extra financial freedom to continue to help. When I first mentioned starting a Go Fund Me for my Mom’s battle with Cancer, she wasn’t too warm to the idea, as many of you didn’t know she was battling this for the last six months and she wasn’t very comfortable sharing her struggle. For those of you who know my Mom, the last thing she ever wants to do is worry others (just like most Mothers). My Mom has now warmed up to this idea and has given me the opportunity to ask for your help.

I am creating this Go Fund Me to provide a little extra assistance with medications, living expenses, groceries etc, and to relive a little financial stress that our family is being faced with during Mom’s battle.

We are aware that everyone right now has their own struggles while losing jobs to COVID, and the Holiday Season upon us, we are beyond thankful for any donations.

My family appreciates the time you have taken to read this. We love and thank you all.

Health and happiness to you all in 2021.

To my Mom: I never knew what it meant to be brave until I seen it in you.
Chase and I love you.
