We need your help!

Our Santa Rosa Flyer's PeeWee team has earned the honor of representing Northern California this January, in Ontario, Canada, at the Silverstick International Tournament of Champions. Any support you can provide would be so greatly appreciated!

Here is our story ...
Santa Rosa Junior Hockey Club and Snoopy’s Home Ice in Santa Rosa, CA has been home to young kids with hockey dreams for over 50 years.  It is a place for boys and girls to learn hockey skills and test out their abilities in a competitive team setting against other teams in Northern California and beyond.   This year, the Santa Rosa Pee Wee team (boys ages 11 and 12) started their season as an underdog of sorts.  The roster was light with only 14 boys including four players who had never played an official hockey game when they took the ice as a squad in August.   Coaches TJ Albrecht, Greg Cornelius, Peter Kaspar and Al Cornelius knew they had their work cut out for them this year but they also saw an unusual amount of potential in this group.  With an enormous amount of time spent on the ice at practices, extra training on dry land, and team-building exercises, the commitment of these boys and their coaches quickly started paying off!  The Flyers are currently tied for 2nd place in their 10 team division in Northern California and they recently competed in the esteemed Regional Silverstick Tournament in San Jose over Thanksgiving weekend.  It was a pivotal moment in their season because not only did they go undefeated over the 4 day round robin competition but they were victorious over the only other undefeated team in a championship game that was the epitome of youth sports competition.  The game was clean, it was fast paced and exciting and after 2 overtime periods and a shootout, the Flyers took the title in crowd roaring fashion.

Several wonderful things came out of that Thanksgiving holiday tournament.  One important non-game victory, was the way the boys carried themselves throughout the weekend.  The Flyers displayed solid sportsmanship not only to the teams and refs around them but their support for each other showed an impressive amount of respect and maturity.  In highly pressured situations, through injuries and challenges, the players were consistently there for one another with hugs, high fives, and words of encouragement.   The players have bonded together quickly and one can easily see their drive to be the best sportsmen they can be.

The other exciting development to emerge from the this exciting tournament win is an invitation, offered to only Regional Silverstick division winners, to travel to the Tournament of Champions in Pelham, Ontario, Canada in January.  It is described as an amazing opportunity of a young hockey player’s life—akin to a youth hockey Olympics with extravagant Opening Ceremonies, camaraderie-creating moments with players from all over North America, four days of exciting championship-quality hockey and will culminate with fireworks over Niagara Falls.

The opportunity to travel to Pelham is so unique and thrilling that we can’t pass it up.  It will be a memory that these kids will carry with them for the rest of their lives.   Please look through our photo album, coaches’ quotes, and personal videos from the players and join us in helping make this dream come true.  We will be setting up an email blog so you can follow the adventures as they compete in Canada.  Any donation is so greatly appreciated and please include a contact email if you are comfortable doing so, because the boys would love to send you a thank you note for your support.
