Please join us in gathering some funds to help Caleb Martinez and his 9 year old daughter, Navaeh, have a smooth transition to Berkeley!
When Caleb was only 15 years old, his brother was shot and killed. This caused Caleb to spiral out of control. He ended up getting into a lot of trouble and spent more time inside a jail cell and on probation than outside in the sun. When he was 17 years old, he became a single father. This caused him to dedicate his time towards working odd jobs to make ends meet and support his daughter.
Unfortunately this wasn’t working out. He wanted more out of life and for his daughter. At 24 years of age, Caleb finally landed on the steps of Grossmont College, where he connected with his brother’s former EOPS counselor, Michael Perez. With the support of family, friends and EOPS, Caleb was able to focus on his education. His biggest inspiration and motivation was his daughter.
Caleb quickly became involved on campus. He became EOPS Club President, joined committees on campus, and had a special interest in social justice. Caleb exceeded his own expectations. He recently found out that he has been accepted to UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and UCSD! Caleb has also been selected as the 2015 Student Commencement Speaker at Grossmont College!
Let's make sure Caleb and Navaeh are as financially secure as possible as they journey to UC Berkeley! Any amount helps. Thank you!!!
