Animal Sanctuary Galapagos
Donation protected
Patitas Galapagueñas is a private rescue shelter dedicated to the protection and rehabilitation of abandoned and mistreated animals in the Galápagos Islands. The sanctuary is run by Fátima Walthert, a Swiss animal lover who made Galápagos her home in 2015.
Determined to make a difference, she founded Patitas Galapagueñas, a private sanctuary that provides a safe haven for dogs, cats, donkeys, and pigs, offering them care, love, and a second chance at life.
Her mission is to raise awareness about sterilization and responsible pet ownership, ensuring that no animal suffers on these unique islands.
The sanctuary addresses the urgent issue of overpopulation and mistreatment of abandoned animals, which not only affects their welfare but also threatens the fragile ecosystem of the Galápagos. The lack of proper management of urban fauna contributes to the spread of diseases such as parvovirus and distemper, endangering both domestic animals and native wildlife. Through sterilization, rescue, rehabilitation, and responsible adoption programs, the sanctuary works to reduce animal suffering while protecting the environment.
Located in the highlands of Santa Cruz, Patitas Galapagueñas is one of the few private sanctuaries in the Galápagos dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of abandoned animals, operating without government support. Unlike other initiatives, it not only provides direct care for rescued animals but also focuses on education and awareness, promoting sterilization and conservation to ensure harmonious coexistence between humans, animals, and the environment.
Objectives:
✔ Rescue and rehabilitate abandoned and abused animals
✔ Reduce the population of stray animals through sterilization and responsible adoption
✔ Protect the local ecosystem by minimizing the impact of urban fauna
✔ Educate the community about responsible pet ownership and wildlife conservation
Expected Impact:
A significant decrease in stray animal populations through sterilization and awareness campaigns
More animals rehabilitated and placed in loving homes
A healthier ecosystem, with reduced disease transmission and improved coexistence between people and wildlife
By supporting this initiative, donors help provide food, medical care, and a safe home for rescued animals while contributing to the preservation of the unique biodiversity of the Galápagos Islands.
