After a few weeks of various doctor’s visits for what she thought was the start of the flu, Lily was unexpectedly diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on Tuesday, October 27th. On the day of her diagnosis, she was taken from Shady Grove Hospital and admitted to Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Lily’s cancer requires immediate treatment. She’ll remain in the hospital for a minimum of 30-40 days. Following her first round of treatment, she’ll undergo additional tests to determine whether she’ll need to undergo another round of treatment.
The medical team informed Lily that it’s unlikely she’ll return to work this school year. This sudden change in life, health and abilities will impact Lily and Allistair significantly. Lily’s diagnosis brings with it astronomical medical expenses on top of everyday living expenses.
