Giving Timothy a Chance #suicideprevention #ptsd

This sweet young man is Timothy. He's a cheerful, loving 13 year-old who was born in Kuldiga, Latvia and at age 5 was adopted into our loving family in America. Together, we can help save his life.

Imagine experiencing severe neglect and abuse before you had language to describe it. Imagine at age 4, in order to survive, you had to bury all those horrors deep in your memory. Staying in survival mode as you were moved into a new family. This was a safe, loving place for you, but your mind never switched out of fight or flight survival mode.

In January of 2020 after attempting to commit suicide, Timothy was diagnosed with PTSD from pre-adoption trauma, Major Depressive Disorder and Reactive Attachment Disorder(RAD).

He has since been hospitalized 11 times, including three different longer term residential care facilities. January 29, 2020 to present he has only been able to stay at home for a day here and there before attempting to self-harm and being put into acute care again.

He has been in his current facility for 6 months. His medication is stabilized. His health caregivers and therapists feel they cannot do more for Timothy. He is no longer advancing in therapy because he is too afraid to let them get close to him. He does not trust them, he will not open up to them and when he feels threatened he goes into flight mode and attempts to self harm. It is a vicious cycle. This current facility is discharging him and they plan to bounce him back into a short-term acute care situation.  They are intent on discharging him by Christmas Eve. We don't want his next destination to again be the Emergency Room.

Timothy cannot keep bouncing from acute care facility to acute care facility. He has a long road of healing ahead. With RAD it's detrimental for Timothy to bounce from one place to another.  He needs stability to learn to trust and develop healthy attachments to feel safe in this world.  He needs long term specialized care to move forward and not go into "flight mode" and attempt suicide again. And a long term specialized care facility needs to be close enough to our home to have us involved in his therapy and recovery.

The best and closest residential RAD therapy facility is CALO (caloprograms.com) in Ozark, Missouri. It is also exclusively private pay and the cost is $14,800 a month. $177,600 a year. The expected stay is 12-18 months.

This is urgent. This is now.  We need your help to save Timothy.
