Drake is our almost-13-year-old Australian Shepherd who has been a constant source of love and stability through every stage of our adult lives. Until very recently, he was an incredibly healthy and active dog.
Last week, we discovered that Drake has a large tumor on his spleen. Aside from this mass, his bloodwork and overall health remain strong. The only way to determine whether the tumor is cancerous or benign — and potentially give him more good time — is through splenectomy surgery.
Our vet is assisting with a referral to have Drake seen by a great laparoscopic splenectomy surgeon here in Ontario for evaluation. This process is urgent, and the cost of diagnostics, surgery, and hospitalization is more than we can manage on our own.
We understand there are no guarantees. Our goal is simply to give Drake the opportunity to be assessed and, if possible, treated — the same way he has always shown up for us throughout his life.
Donations will help cover:
• Specialist evaluation and diagnostics
• Hopeful laparoscopic splenectomy surgery and hospitalization
• Ongoing veterinary care and medications
• Travel and accommodation required for treatment outside the city
• Supportive care to keep Drake comfortable
If Drake is not a surgical candidate, funds will continue to go toward his medical care and comfort. Any remaining funds will be donated to a Canadian organization supporting research and earlier detection of canine cancers like splenic tumors.
Thank you for taking the time to support Drake and help us do everything we can.
