Phineas is the sweet, quirky dog of my best friend, Rebecca Garma. He spent a year as a stray and another year in a shelter before Rebecca adopted him in January 2024. When she brought him home, he was extremely anxious and dealing with constant ear infections, but Rebecca never gave up on him. She worked so hard to help him through his anxiety, taking him to behavioral therapy and giving him love and patience every single day.
On August 18th, Phineas slipped a disc in his back from a disease Rebecca did not know he had (intervertebral disc disease). The disc pressed on his spinal cord and left his back legs paralyzed. He needed an emergency hemilaminectomy surgery on August 20th and will spend four days in the ICU, followed by months of physical therapy to have the chance to walk again.
The total bills could be around 20,000 dollars, which is impossible for Rebecca to cover on her own. She is the most selfless pet owner I know, and Phineas deserves the chance to live a happy and playful life after everything he has already survived.
If you are able to donate, it would mean the world. Every little bit helps with the hemilaminectomy surgery, ICU care, and rehabilitation. And if you cannot donate, sharing this page would still make a huge difference.
Let’s help Phineas get back on his feet so he can live the safe and joyful life that Rebecca has fought so hard to give him.
