6/2/2018-We got some GREAT news today!!!! We found out that James is a candidate for Gamma Knife Radiation and James is lucky enough to have a world renounced neurosurgeon in California not only accept his case, but HE WANTS James’ case! Dr. William Loudon in Orange, CA – website is https://www.drloudonpediatricneurosurgery.com/orange-ca/gamma-knife-radiosurgery/
Just in case you would like to read about him and/or gamma knife radiation. Dr. Loudon told me tonight that we have to move fast because gamma knife is done on 3 cm & smaller. James has 18-20 lesions/tumors that are on the lining of his right ventricle, biggest one on 5/21 MRI was 1 cm. Germinomas are classically sensitive w/a 90% success rate. Minimal risk, 95% safety rate. Advantage of gamma knife is that it treats only what’s targeted, disadvantage of gamma knife is that it treats only what’s targeted. But, unlike traditional radiation, gamma knife can be done again & again & again should there be more tumors at a later time. Absolutely no side effects. Doc estimates 20-30 minutes per lesion, making it a 6+ hours for James. James will be awake, wearing a head frame that is bolted to his head. A little discomfort/pain from the bolts is all he will feel during the whole procedure. Gamma knife is done on Wednesday’s only. If a miracle happens (meaning if EVERYTHING falls together Monday so we can fly Tuesday) we will get James there for next Wednesday, June 6th. If not, we will fly out the next week to have the procedure happen on the 13th.
As expected, insurance won’t cover the treatment. We are swallowing our pride and we are asking for help. We’ve been fighting for so long with so much love, support, and financial help – we don’t like asking, but for James we will do ANYTHING. PERIOD. We are praying that this is the answer that we all have been praying for and that this is the end of this nightmare so James can get on with his life.
There will be jars for collection at Village Variety and Karma Salon in Cornish. Or you can mail James a check at 117 Main Street, Porter, ME 04068 or you can mail a check to Bangor Savings Bank at 180 Main Street, Cornish, ME 04020 – please make checks payable to James H. Day.
Please give, even if it’s $1.oo. Trust me, every dollar counts. Anything that you can do to help James is very much appreciated, more than words can express.
Also, please pray that this treatment is successful for James. He deserves it – he’s been fighting for a very long time. It’s time for things to go his way.
We could not get through these extremely tough times without the support from our family, friends, & community. We are truly blessed.
