Gio Ravelo MuDanza Artistic Residency October 2021

Hello everyone!

I’m Giovanni Ravelo, and today I’m going to share with you what MuDanza Artistic Foundation is about, and why we need your generous support.

MuDanza was founded in 2019 with the mission of creating opportunities through artistic residencies, that allow dancers in my birth country of Colombia to have access to dance education at no cost, and to originate new works for video and stage that propel and nourish the local talent.

So far, hundreds of students have enjoyed master classes in ballet, modern and contemporary dance during the five artistic residencies Mudanza has produced. As a result of those residencies, twelve professionals dancers have participated in a full evening of dance, two video performances, and the creation and staging of five works.

Colombia has faced a difficult year of protests against social injustice 
resulting in violent outbursts in the urban areas. Adding to the pandemic, this unfortunate situation has deeply hurt the performing arts in general. and the dance community specifically.

In response to this, Mudanza will be producing two artistic residences during October in the cities of Bogotá and Bucaramanga, that will benefit more than eighty students, and give twenty four professional dancers the chance to perform again in a new work that will be filmed and presented virtually.

The funds raised will be used to pay the dancers, rent studios, build costumes and cover filming costs of the new work.

This project will be a valuable  experience for the students  to train with two international teachers. This will also provide a platform for professional dancers to perform again, since the prospects of returning to the stage anytime soon are filled with uncertainty.
