Saving Gigi. Recovery car accident and Surgery Bills

Donation protected
2024 Update: Gigi has made a full recovery. She can walk, run, no problem. The medical bills are still enormous and we owe over $10,000 as a result of this incident. Thank you all for all the help.

Our precious 3-year-old dog, Gigi, escaped and got hit by a car in early April 2023. This all happened while we were on vacation and Gigi was in the care of family. We were still out of the country the night this happened. We immediately cut our trip short 2 days into it to head back home to be with her. She needs all of us right now as the road to recovery will be arduous. But she is the glue in our family, she's been there for every milestone, and she's her baby sister, 1-year-old Dorothy-Mae's best friend. She is a beautiful, energetic, loving soul and everyone who's met her knows this. We are praying tonight that she pulls through.

Update: We've driven home early from vacation to head straight to the hospital. It's a miracle she even survived a collision with a car. But she will need surgery on a hip and a fractured shoulder. I ask everyone to keep her in their heart. She has a big one and she loves everybody.

As far as the $. I do want to make arrangements to pay every contributor back. It's just, we were told to pay nearly 5k on her first night in the hospital or..... I don't know. What do they do if we can't pay? We took out a CareCredit card and maxed it to cover that first night. Was kind of a surprise bill, but all accidents are. And with more surgeries needed. This surprise emergency bill may go up even more.

Easter update April 10, 2023: Gigi had her hip surgery on Monday afternoon. Without this surgery, she may never walk again. The surgery was a success and she will be back home with us by Tuesday afternoon. The total bill for everything was $16,314!! We're happy to dish out every penny of it to ensure she walks again. But the timing is horrendous since we have a newborn baby turning one, and plans to move to a 2 bedroom to accommodate all of us. Those plans have to be postponed by at least a year now. I am working night gigs now after my 9-5 job, delivering food every night to try and work off this insane cost. At least 3 hours a night.

April 11th: She's home now after surgery and recovering.

April 23rd: She doesn't require the wagon anymore for going outside. She poops twice a day, slowly walking herself to her old go-to spots. She nearly made it around the block and never wants to turn around and head home. She used to walk for hours, miles and miles, and I can see that in her heart, she can't wait to do it again. I feel like she's pushing too far and too fast and turning her around at the half-block point. We still feel so lucky to have her with us. Her spirit and her love burn bright all the time. This was a close call.

She used to be a big fan of puppy parkour. She would see something that she's capable of jumping on up, and she'd go for it! She still looks to her old ledges with those eyes saying she wants to hop up again, but I cannot allow it. Not for a few more months. She tried hopping up on our couch once while our backs were turned, but couldn't get her hind legs off the ground. Her eyes were so sad that she just couldn't do it. But we keep reassuring her, that soon, she'll get her hops back!
