Dylan’s Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Journey

Donation protected
Hello family, friends and everyone who sees this. My name is Micaiah and I am raising funds to help with medical expenses, mobility accessories and living costs for my friend Dylan and his family.

Dylan is an Australian professional Electrician and adventure enthusiast living with his wife Jaclyn in San Diego as she is in research at UCSD.

Dylan is an incredible individual and friend who immediately wins over everyone he meets. An avid freediver, mountain biker and nature lover, Dylan is the type of friend and individual who says yes to every adventure that connects him to nature and builds relationships with the people around him.

On April 1st, 2023 Dylan was thrown from a dirt bike while exploring the Southern California desert with myself and several others. Despite wearing safety gear and riding within his limits, the angle of landing caused a traumatic impact spinal injury and left him paralyzed from the chest down.

I was with him from the time of injury to when he was airlifted almost an hour later. As a Firefighter and EMT, I can say I am truly amazed at the strength and courage he displayed while enduring a terrifying and agonizing injury. In typical Dylan's attitude about life, just before being Air Lifted to the hospital, Dylan said "I have always dreamed of flying in a helicopter, I guess this is as good a time as any."

Dylan was Life Flighted to a Level 1 Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries.
While his trauma team and neurosurgeons are working to give him the best chance at recovery possible, his attitude and optimism have been strong. The outcomes now are uncertain but we know no matter what he will have an extended and challenging recovery.

The time ahead will be hard in many ways. Dylan is far from his family and support network in Australia. He will not be able to work during recovery and may face long-term paralysis.

I know Dylan will maintain his positive attitude and work to recover and move on, but I also know that he will need help from his friends and the community around him.

I ask that you please pray and support Dylan in any way that you can, and please pass this on to everyone you know to increase the potential of reaching our goal of support for Dylan.

Thank-you
