Help Stan w/Kidney Transplant Costs
Donation protected
Family and friends of Stanley Lucero are raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with kidney transplantation.
Stanley has been attending appointments scheduled with the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona since beginning of August 2016. The latest tests were in early May 2017. The Urologist has told the family that pending no problems, he will be cleared for a transplant! The doctor said, "If this last procedure is what's hindering clearance, when you reach full recovery, I will clear you for a kidney transplant! Let's get you healthier!"
Any money raised will be used towards hotel costs, per diem and transportation for further tests and for the stay after the transplant. Mayo Clinic requires all kidney transplant patients like Stanley to stay as close to the clinic as possible and there may talso be some additional travel to the Scottsdale clinic.
Stanley is now on daily peritoneal dialysis at home. He has been without a major medical incident for over a year. We should tell you that Stanley has been on the transplant list for the University of New Mexico Hospital for two years now. Immediate family members have been deemed ineligible to be live donors due to medical conditions.
Stanley is from the Pueblo of Laguna in New Mexico and served in tribal government for over 30 years as a Lt. Governor, Tribal Treasurer, and Councilman. Although he is now retired, he remains a member of the tribes Investment Committee. Stanley is also a gifted artist and creates beautiful quilts and clothing. Stanley is also a proud, but humble Vietnam War Veteran with the U.S. Marine Corps. He and his wife, Cecelia, are lifelong members of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) Council of Elders. He has three children (Shayai, Haitsi and Payadyamu who died 18 years ago), two grandchildren (Kawe and Mai), and three granddogs.
The family doesn't know why Stanley's kidneys have failed. He is not diabetic, doesn't smoke, has always been in excellent health, and it was a shock to see this strong individual undergo renal failure. We as a family have been very supportive of him that we've changed our diet so we could still eat together almost everyday. We encourage him to walk/exercise everyday and we keep encouraging him to sew and make his art. We also work hard with his renal medical team to keep him as healthy as possible. We pray a healthy kidney will come to our Husband, Dad and Grandpa soon.
The team at Mayo Clinic and the team at UNMH feel that Stanley is a good candidate for a kidney transplant. By getting Stan on two transplant lists, his chances increase to receive the gift of a kidney. We as a family will be in Phoenix as support because it's the least we can do to help our amazing Husband, Dad and Grandpa!
Thank you for your support!
