Help My Dad Walk Again: A Journey of Strength, Loss, and Hope

Hi, my name is Tristan, and I’m here asking for help, not just for my dad, but for the man who’s been the heart of our family for as long as I can remember. In 2023, our world shifted. My dad lost his left leg due to complications from an infection caused by diabetes. It was sudden, heartbreaking, and life-changing. But in true dad fashion, he met it with quite strength and a determination I honestly didn’t know was humanly possible. He learned to navigate life with one leg, enduring long, painful physical therapy sessions, countless hospital visits, and the emotional toll of losing something so essential. Through it all, he kept his sense of humor, kept checking in on us, and kept being the rock we’ve always leaned on. But just as he was starting to adjust to life with one prosthetic leg, just as we were all beginning to breathe again, another blow came. Near the end of 2024, we got the devastating news that his right leg would also need to be amputated. It felt like life had knocked him down again right as he was getting back up. I won’t sugarcoat it: this has been hard. On him. On our family. Watching someone you love go through that kind of loss twice is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone. But my dad? He never gave up. Not once. His spirit is unbreakable. Now, we’re at a point where he needs new prosthetic legs, high-quality ones that will give him the mobility and dignity he deserves. The kind that aren’t just functional but that will allow him to truly live again: to walk, to stand at family gatherings, to hug his grandkids at eye level. But as you can probably imagine, these prosthetics are expensive, and insurance barely scratches the surface. So I’m here, with a humble heart, asking for help. Every dollar donated will go directly toward getting my dad the prosthetic legs he needs, as well as covering the physical therapy and support equipment to help him relearn how to walk. Anything beyond our goal will go toward making his home more accessible, so he can regain his independence and keep doing the things he loves, like cooking his famous Sunday breakfasts or sitting on the porch, watching the world go by. Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being a part of our journey. Whether you’re able to donate, share, or just send some love our way, it means more than words can say. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

With love,Tristan
