Hi, I'm Sam Page.
And this is Macy.
Macy has been doing it really tough lately, but there's light at the end of the tunnel, if we can get some help...
We need your urgent assistance to relocate from Victoria to NSW so Macy and I can both undergo major surgeries.
We've been given until 25th November to vacate our rental property as it, and all the land around it, has been sold to developers.
After three and a half years of searching we have finally secured a property that meets ALL of Macy's disability needs.
But we have 29 days to make the move....
If you, or anyone you know, thinks they can help our little family even a little bit we'd so very grateful...
OUR BACKSTORY (settle in, its a long one...)
Macy has Down Syndrome and is disabled with special needs, non verbal, wheelchair user, profoundly intellectually impaired, and is hearing and vision impaired.
Macy has faced some massive health challenges in her 15 years on this planet.
The most recent being 33 days in hospital, where we discovered that Macy had developed a throat full of fatty lymphoid tumours. Thankfully they tested as non malignant.
They were badly infected with multiple abscesses, causing her to basically be drowning in pus. She was put in a Medically induced coma while they treated her.
Her team of specialists now want to go in and remove an enlarged and problematic lingual tonsil, as well as 'clear the airways'.
I'm a single parent, with my own disability (caused by DV 4 years ago) and living on a disability pension.
We have no family or friends here, in Victoria where we live. My eldest daughter, my only family in Australia, lives a 15 hour drive away.
Since my spine was damaged by a domestic violence incident, we've been desperately trying to move back to where my eldest daughter lives (and where both of my girls were born). I also have support networks there, with friends etc.
We need the love and support of each other, as we face not only Macy's surgery, but now TWO of mine as well...
I had unplanned emergency spinal surgery after the DV incident. This alleviated my immediate condition but still left me with a "surgically unfixable" injury which causes me chronic pain 24/7.
At that time, my eldest daughter abandoned her life and came to us for 5 months while I recovered.
Now my neurosurgery team want to do the entire surgery again. They believe they could possibly get a better outcome.
We HAVE to be living near my eldest daughter for this to happen, so she can support us with my recovery, as we simply do not have any support here in Victoria to facilitate this.
The rental market in Australia is terrible, we've been knocked back for dozens of houses since June 2022, not desirable because we're interstate and can't view them, because we're on government benefits, because we're both disabled... (I've been very clearly informed that landlords don't like renting to people in wheelchairs because of the risk of internal damage to the property)..
The moving costs are HUGE as Macy has some really large pieces of equipment to be moved, (plus I'll need to backload my car interstate as my spinal pain precludes me from doing the drive by myself and Macy wouldn't be able to travel in her wheelchair for the 15 hour drive).
Therefore we've been quoted between $7,400 and $9,700 for the move, by three separate companies.
I have been unsuccessful in raising the money from the various charities that may sometimes help with such things (Lions Club, Rotary, Anglicare, Orange Door, Quantum, Carer Gateway) and I've had to finally admit defeat and put my hand up for help.
I can't make this happen alone. I hate to put my hand up for help but we're desperate.
The fundraising goal I've chosen reflects the moving costs and the cost of shipping my car interstate, plus the expense of flying Macy and myself to NSW with airport transfers using wheelchair taxis at both ends.
If you can help us, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and if you can share our fundraiser to people you know, it would help immensely.
Thank you.
Sam
