From Neliza, Gehard's wife:
On Christmas Eve 2015, Gerhard, my rock and father of our two beautiful children was diagnosed with cancer. The shock and the fear is unbelievable. In the following weeks, Gerhard had a few procedures including a biopsy of the tumors in his lungs, and a CT scan to see the extent of the cancer.

In January and February, Gerhard went through two rounds of chemo. On March 1st, we went to Kaiser for a CT scan to check the progress. We are so nervous. Gerhard feels even more pressure in his lungs and is worried that the chemo might not be working.  

Monday March 7th: We head to Kaiser for the start of the third cycle. Before we start we are having a quick visit with Dr. Berge about the results of the CT scan. Dr Berge enters the room. I look at his face and I go cold. NO! This is not going to be good. My mouth is dry. What???? Then the words follow in slow motion: Bad news: Gerhard's cancer did not respond to the chemo at all. We cannot continue with this treatment because it's of no use. The message is grim. 

Gerhard is now on palliative chemo.  In this sorrowful time we feel so blessed by our children. The greatest gift of my life with Gerhard, I will for the rest of my life, continue to live the life that Gerhard and I created together. I will parent our children representing us both because we have been such a strong unit as parents.


This Go Fund Me page has been set up by Gerhard's co-workers at Denver Environmental Health.  Gerhard is a terrific person who always is quick with a smile, a hello, or "how is your family?" inquiry.  Even after the cancer diagnosis and chemo, Gerhard continued to work as much as he could.

 We want to support Gerhard and his family, Neliza, Sebastien, and Charlize.  The intent of this fund is to support them now with daily expenses, medical bills, and for future needs for Gerhard's family.  Many co-workers were able to donate sick leave to Gerhard, but not all of us qualify to donate.
