My father has worked for years to support me and I cannot imagine being as successful as I have been without his help. He helped me to travel, to go to school and now to become a doctor - a future vascular surgeon. I could never repay him for all that he has done for me. In an ironic chain of events, my father suffered from a vascular problem that has debilitated him for the last half year. It began with greatly swollen feet and progressed to large ulcers on his left foot requiring a major surgery to bypass a large blockage in the blood vessel that gives blood to his left leg and foot. He has been in an facility for the past 3 months. To make matters worse, the physician who operated on him did not place him on blood thinners which culminating in that surgery failing. They were able to open his original artery but that is not a permanent fix. His leg's situation has been increasing in severity and his rest pain due to decreased blood flow has been increasing. He will be at risk of losing his foot if this situation continues without a successful intervention. I have seen great stress arise in my family and the emotional toll has been great. Though my parents are divorced, my mother has stood by him, taking care of him in every way possible - at her own expense. She is suffering from her own medical issues that cause constant pain and she is using her own retirement funds to help my father. He will soon be close to a foreclosure of his house (still some time left) and even his dog has been in the kennel for 3 months which amounts to a couple thousand dollars. As a medical student, I am at a loss as to how I can financially help them during this time - so I am putting this gofundme out there, not sure what it will yield. If you feel led to donate something for my dad, please do so, but the most important thing you can do is pray for my dad. Thank you very much and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
