George Turner Fund

Donation protected

Our good friend George Turner lost his live-aboard boat/HOME to the Atlantic Ocean on December 28th, 2021.  His boat collided with a submerged object and sank in minutes.  Thankfully, George got a mayday call out and was found by Sea Air Rescue and air lifted to a hospital on the island of Guadeloupe some hours later.  In addition to a few broken toes and scrapes, he has lost everything he owned - literally everything but a pair of shorts.

I have been a friend of George's for 26 years and have set up this campaign to help him get on his feet again.  Only George will have access to any funds raised - I am simply the organizer.

Please donate as much as you can and please share/repost this story on your social media or through your contacts list so we can all help our dear friend who is very much in need of it.

You can follow this link to George's log of losing his boat.

The Story:

Anyone who knows George, knows that he belongs on the water.  He's spent the last 26 years living on his sailboat, Rozinante - a 38 foot Kadey Krogen designed for both blue water sailing and Caribbean cruising.  He purchased her in Miami back in the 90's and immediately moved aboard and began customizing her with the intention of doing just that - blue water sailing and Caribbean cruising.

With a decade of south Florida and Bahama sailing under his belt, he left Miami and sailed up to New Jersey for work, eventually finding a slip in Liberty State Marina with a view of Lower Manhattan.  However, having to break ice around the boat with his kayak paddles that first winter, he decided that he needed to make his dream of cruising the Caribbean a reality - and fast.   So after a few short years in New Jersey, George began his sailing journey south and ended up in Windward Island of St. Lucia. Within a few days of landing in St. Lucia he was teaching at a school on the island.

During his time in St. Lucia, George put his teaching money into Rozinante, making her more and more self sufficient as he explored the southern Caribbean on her.  After few years, the school moved a few islands north to Antigua, so George began 'commuting'.

He made the three day sail from St. Lucia to Antigua, taking him past beautiful Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe and Monteserat many times.  But this past December, proved to be his last sail on his beloved Rozinante, as sadly, she sank in >1000 ft of blue water with Antigua in site, and just a few hours left on his last three day commute...

George's home of 26 years is now under 1000 feet of water along with everything he owned.

Thankfully he's still with us and able to stay in a dorm room at the school for now, but he made it there with a pair of hospital scrubs and flip-flops.
