Update 6-17-23:
-------
Hello Friends,
The community has not given up on saving Theatre 80. Neither have the Otways paused in this battle. But any fight needs to sustain those who are fighting for the cause! After almost 2 months since filing for food benefits, they have not been provided with formal support yet. Genie is working daily on finding a sustainable solution to their housing and work situation. In addition, sadly, the Otway's beloved cat, Pyewacket, passed away last week and the Otways are struggling to pay vet and burial costs. Genie still needs your support. Thank you for caring!
-----------------
For over 50 years, Genie Gilmore Otway and the Otway family have been a pillar of the community in the East Village. Through their beloved businesses, Theatre 80 St Marks, William Barnacle Tavern, and The Museum of the American Gangster, they provided employment, friendship, and a port in the storm for those in need.
Tragically, after a long battle to recover after the effects of COVID closings, last week Genie and her family were evicted from their historic building and evicted from their home.
The future is very uncertain for Genie and she needs some financial help to tide her over while the situation is addressed. We're seeking donations to help her cover basic needs for medicine, food, basic necessities and storage fees for the possessions she managed to salvage from her home.
Genie has a huge heart and has been so generous to so many over the years. This is our chance to support her. Any donation, big or small, will go a long way to help her through this incredibly challenging time.
