Generation H.O.P.E Fundraising Initiative

Hello everyone,

We are a group of Lebanese students from Saint Joseph University of Beirut.

In May 2021, the Lebanese currency massively depreciated due to the devastating financial crisis.

Many students in the country were forced to interrupt their university studies.

We couldn’t let this happen to any of our classmates, so we launched the Generation H.O.P.E scholarship fundraising campaign to Help Others Pursue Education (H.O.P.E.).

In one year, we have come to help 126 students cover the USD 250 cash contribution from their tuition.

However, the road ahead is still long, and we still need to raise USD 18,500.

Here is our story.

Since late 2019, Lebanon has been going through a severe financial and economic crisis, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic and the August 4 blast.

The Lebanese currency has plummeted, thousands of people have lost their jobs, and many cannot access their bank deposits.

Thus, despite being the most severely impacted university by the blast, USJ did NOT INCREASE its tuition for the academic year 2020-2021 in order to carry out its educational mission and ensure that high-quality education remains equally accessible to people from all social classes and all communities.

By 2021, USJ was significantly ailing from the economic crisis, and students were anxious about a potential increase in tuition fees caused by the black-market dollar exchange rate increase. This was when we resolved to take action in support of our university and classmates.

As previously stated, Generation H.O.P.E. has raised enough funds in one year to help 126 students covering up to USD 250 in supplemental tuition fees. This would not have been achieved without our engaged and loyal alumni's generous support.
