Gilgit-Baltistan Flood Disaster Relief

Due to recent climate change, Gilgit-Baltistan, a region in northern Pakistan, is facing massive flash flooding. This phenomenon, also known as a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF), is caused by glaciers melting and causing rapid bursts of water to flow downstream, resulting in destruction. Pakistan currently holds over 13,032 glacier lakes, the largest reservoir of glaciers outside of the polar regions.

The Ghizer district is currently cut off by the floods, affecting hundreds of homes, schools, and agricultural lands, and has taken away the livelihood of people, washing away everything. Many lives have also been lost in these floods. The floods have further created an artificial lake which has blocked off access for about 5 miles, submerging everything in its way.

The area teams have done intensive on-ground research to determine what the people need most urgently. With your contributions, you will be providing basic essentials for the affected families such as hygiene care kits, non-perishable foods, solar lights, blankets, and warm clothing as winter will be approaching soon. The teams will be visiting the remote mountain regions where there is difficult access and hand-delivering the items.
